Last Satellite dish removed from BT Tower

Engineers have removed the last satellite dish from the BT Tower in London. Originally there were 29 Dishes on the Tower used to beam most televisions shows around the country. The 450 Kilo dishes have been out of service for years following the introduction of Fibre Optic technology at the Tower.

Raiders steal Rhino horn replicas from museum

Thieves who broke into a museum stole two rhino horns from taxidermy displays were foiled because museum staff had replaced the horns worth £240,000 with replicas.

The Natural History Museum in Tring, said the resin horns were fitted on to two specimens three months ago and had no resale value.

Consumers benefit from UK broadband speed surge

“UK consumers are benefiting from a boost to broadband speeds, Ofcom’s latest broadband speeds research revealed.

The average UK broadband speed increased by 10 per cent, from 6.2Mbit/s in November/December 2010, to 6.8Mbit/s in May 2011.”

BT to increase phone call charges by 5%

Telecoms giant BT is to raise call charges for residential customers by up to 5% on 3 December – the second increase this year.

UK landline calls will go up from 7.6p a minute to 7.95p a minute. Line rental prices will also rise, but calls to mobiles will be unchanged.

BT is upgrading a further 114 exchanges

BT is upgrading a further 114 exchanges – the majority of which will receive fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) technology.

The telco said that the latest rollout would serve one million homes and businesses in the UK. Its Openreach division said that it planned to complete the upgrades by the end of autumn 2012.
